Food is an  is an edible part of plant or animal. We have already understood that the food is essence of life and it is a basic necessity for all living organisms. No matter what kind of organisms we are talking about, one thing in common for all is food.Food help us to get energy for all our daily activities.Without food an organism cant grow .Lack of enough nutrients will disturb the process of tissue repair.Above all, food gives us a sense of satisfaction when it is cooked and served well.A balanced food must provide all the essential nutrients such as ;carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. In this lesson, we will be refreshing the question answers of 6th grade science lesson food. 

Answer the following questions:

1. Do you find that all living beings need the same kind of food?

Answer: No, each living organism may have a different requirement for nutrition based on its ability to produce food. All living organisms are classified into two types based on their ability to produce their food, they are producers and consumers.

2. What do you mean by ingredients?

Answer: Ingredients are the substances used to combine and make a particular dish. For example,Biryani is a recipe prepared by mixing the ingredients like water, raw rice, ginger, garlic, bay leaf, chilli, salt etc.

3. Why are plants called producers?

Answer: Plants are producers because they can make their food by themselves.Plants that synthesize food on their own are also called autotrophs. 

4.What are herbivores, carnivores and omnivores?

Answer: Herbivores are animals that eat only plant products . For example: cow, elephant, rabbit, horse, etc. A carnivor eat flesh of other animals. For ex: lion, tiger, fox etc. Omnivores eat both plant and animal sources, example, cats, dogs, crows. etc.

5. What are edible foods? Name any five plants and their parts that we consume.
Answer: 
The plant part that we can eat and digested easily are called edible foods. The table below shows an example of some edible foods that we eat.

6. What are sprouts? How to make them?

Answer: Sprouts are freshly germinated young plants.It is very simple to make them.Soak some selected seeds ( green gram, horse gram, etc) for 8-10 hours and then drain the water from the pot. Tightly tie them inside a cotton cloth, making sure air should move inside the cloth. Do not keep them in a cold place as germination needs a combination of temperature and moisture. You may keep it for 2-7 days to fully germinate and use them.

7. Why are sprouts considered more nutritious? 

Answer: Sprouts are a very good choice of nutrition as they offer very good fiber, essential minerals, and vitamins .Sprouted seeds contains simple carbohydrates easy for digestion.

 8. What is nectar?

Answer; Nectar is a sweet fluid produced inside the middle of a flower.It is a food for honey bees.

9. From where does honey come from?

Answer: We get honey from honey beesBees collect a sweet juice called nectar from flowers and make honey and store it in their hive.
