Red Data Book
The Red Data Book is a record book or catalogue maintained to keep information about endangered and extinct species of plants and animals. It provides data to scientists, conservationists, and governments to take action to protect species that are in danger of disappearing. They identify and document species that are under threat. Red data book helps to raise awareness about endangered plants and animals and also to track to track the population trends of rare species. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) maintains the global Red List. India also has its own Red Data Book published by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and Botanical Survey of India (BSI).
